About Raven Recycling and its Project

The Raven Recycling Society has existed since 1989, when it was known as the Recycling Committee of the Yukon Conservation Society. Raven is an established not-for-profit organization with seventeen employees that diverts non-refundable recyclable materials from the landfill. Raven Recycling uses the money made at the bottle depot and scrap metals yard to pay for the transport and recycling of non refundable plastics and paper. On average, Raven diverts almost 2000 tonnes of waste from the landfill annually.

Currently, all recycling business activities take place within the city of Whitehorse, with volunteer depots providing refunds and collection services in 16 Yukon communities. However, the feasibility study will investigate ways to pay the community depots for their efforts and increase the volume of recyclable material collected.
