Fuel Consumption Guide
The Fuel Consumption Guide lists the annual estimates of fuel use, fuel cost and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of new passenger cars, light-duty pickup trucks, vans and special-purpose vehicles available for sale in Canada. The fuel consumption ratings are presented according to vehicle make and model, engine size, type of transmission, vehicle class and fuel type. Annual fuel usage and cost and estimated CO2 emissions are based on the fuel consumption of a vehicle travelling 20,000 kilometres, with a mix of 55 percent in the city and 45 percent on the highway. Information concerning model-specific fuel consumption ratings and estimated annual fuel cost also appears on the EnerGuide Label affixed to all new cars and light-duty trucks available for retail sale in Canada.
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) produces the Fuel Consumption Guide in collaboration with Transport Canada, the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada and the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association. The guide is available from participating new vehicle dealerships; most local, provincial and territorial motor vehicle licence agency offices; participating Credit Union offices across Canada; participating Caisses populaires et d’économie Desjardins in Quebec; and participating Canadian Automobile Association offices across Canada.
