Government of Canada recognizes manufacturers of the most fuel-efficient vehicles

TORONTOThe Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, today announced the 2010 recipients of the ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards at the Canadian International AutoShow. The awards recognize the most fuel-efficient cars and light trucks available in Canada.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to recognize the automotive industry’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its vehicles,” said Minister Kent. “Our climate change commitment is really concrete – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020.”

The winners of the 2010 awards in each of the 10 vehicle classes are:

  • Two-Seater: smart fortwo
  • Subcompact: Toyota Yaris
  • Compact: Honda Civic Hybrid
  • Mid-Size:  Toyota Prius
  • Full-Size: Hyundai Sonata
  • Station Wagon: Audi A3 TDI and Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel (co-winners)
  • Pickup Truck: Ford Ranger and Mazda B2300 (co-winners)
  • Special Purpose: Ford Escape Hybrid
  • Minivan: Mazda5
  • Large Van: Chevrolet Express Cargo / GMC Savana Cargo

The ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards are a part of the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY initiative — a $4.1-billion set of focused measures to help Canadians use energy more efficiently, boost renewable energy supplies and develop cleaner energy technologies.
